We are people with strong beliefs. We don't mind sharing them with others. We also have strong political opinions, but we usually avoid discussing them to avoid contention. However, the two have seemed to cross. We have tried to think about what we could say on the issue. We have too many ideas. We think that there are many more issues than religion involved in legislation regarding marriage, although our religious beliefs drive our opinions about Proposition 8 and other issues regarding same-sex marriage.
This morning, we finally found out what we want to say. It is a message from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This message conveys our views in a tone of love, equality, and tolerance, while strongly standing for what we believe.
Let us say that we know people who disagree with our opinion. We are in no way trying to offend you. We still love you. We hope that disagreement on this issue will not drive you away from us. However, we can firmly say that we do not support same-sex marriage.
Please give the link below a read. It will only take a few minutes. Although coming from a religious institute, the academic quality of the letter is intriguing. We know the document was inspired because it not only touches the heart, but the mind as well.
